Introduction

This FAQ explains how to reset your Tapo camera to its default factory settings. Resetting the camera may help resolve issues such as connection failures, configuration errors, or when you want to set the device up with a new account. The article covers different reset methods for various Tapo camera models, including security cameras, pan & tilt cameras, outdoor cameras, and battery-powered cameras, as well as how to reset the device through the Tapo app.

Configuration

Method 1: Use the RESET button/hole

Note: Ensure the camera is powered on before resetting.

Type 1: For Security Camera

Use a pin to press and hold the Reset button for at least 5 seconds until the LED blinks red. The camera will reset and reboot.

Type 2: For Pan & Tilt Security Camera

Tilt the camera lens up, then press and hold the RESET button for at least 5 seconds until the LED blinks red. The camera will reset and reboot.

Type 3: For Outdoor Security Camera

Step 1. Loosen the screws on the back panel and remove the cover.

For an outdoor Tapo security camera, loosen the screws on the back panel using a screwdriver to remove the cover, then locate the RESET button inside the camera housing.

Step 2. Press and hold the Reset button for at least 5 seconds until the LED blinks red.

Type 4: For Battery Camera

Case 1: Tapo C420/C400

Step 1. Twist anti-clockwise and then pull to remove the cover of the camera and find the reset button.

Step 2. Press and hold the SYNC/RESET Button for at least 5 seconds until the camera’s status LED blinks red.

Case 2. Tapo C425

  • V1: Open the cover for SD card slot. Use a pin to press and hold the Reset Button for at least 5 seconds to reset the camera to factory default settings.

Case 3. Tapo C660

Open the cover, the reset button is a circular, raised button on the right. While the camera is on, press and hold the RESET button for 10 seconds to reset to factory settings.

Case 4. Tapo C630

Tilt the camera lens down to locate the silicone cover. Open the cover, the reset button is a circular, raised button on the left. While the camera is on, press and hold the RESET button for 10 seconds to reset the camera to factory settings.

Case 5. Tapo C645D

Turn to the back side of the larger block to find the silicone cover. Open the cover, the reset button is a circular, raised button on the left. While the camera is on, press and hold the RESET button for 10 seconds to reset the camera to factory settings.

Method 2: Remove the camera via the Tapo App

Note: The camera must be online to perform an app-based reset.

Case 1: Go to the Home page

On the home page, long-press your camera model card. Then tap the minus icon on the card. The camera will be removed from your TP-Link account and reset to the default settings.

Case 2: Go to Camera Settings page

Step 1. On the home page, tap on your camera model card.

Step 2. On the Live View page, tap the gear icon to enter the Camera Settings page.

Step 3. Tap Remove Camera at the bottom to remove the camera from your TP-Link account. The camera will be removed from your account and reset to the default settings.

QA

Q1: What should I do if the reset fails?

A1:

  • Make sure your camera can be powered on.
  • Please do not operate after power-on, wait 10 minutes and try to reset again.

Q2: Does camera reset affect Tapo Care?

A2: The Tapo Care subscription is linked to your TP-Link ID. Resetting your camera will not affect your subscription, provided it has not expired.

However, after resetting and reconfiguring the camera, you need to add it back to the Tapo Care plan: Go to Tapo app > Me > Tapo Care page, tap Select Camera on the plan, select the camera to apply to Tapo Care and confirm the selection.

If no Tapo Care plan appears on the Tapo Care page, make sure you are logged in to the Tapo App with the TP-Link account that purchased the subscription.
